A Gaming Paradox: A Basic AND Fun Free FPS
Ironsight is a free-to-play online multiplayer FPS game available on PC. We love it and we’re still playing it – it’s free, it’s lightweight (8GB) and it’s fun!

Y: I found out about the game because of Warface. I wanted that similar brainless run and gun kind of thing. I searched around and found it on Steam. It didn’t have the worst reviews but it wasn’t anything spectacular apparently, and when I tried it, it was good and I enjoyed it.
H: I definitely agree with the reviews. It’s really fun to play because it’s not stressful, which is good because I’m a casual gamer. The gunplay though is not great and it’s a bit laggy at times. Also, I think people are hacking or really good because you either get a really good game or keep dying.
Y: I think that’s part of what I like about Ironsight. Yes, they’re probably hacking or level 200-and-something but you respawn every few seconds so you kind of forget about it, depending on the game mode. The quality isn’t as great though. Another drawback, but simultaneously not a drawback, is the gear and its monetisation. There’s a lot of monetisation opportunity and it is pay-to-win. Despite all of that, I can still get the base versions of most guns with the money you get from playing games so it’s not bad.
H: Yeah it’s not bad at all, it’s actually quite good.
Y: It’s daunting at first with all the numbers and zeros though.
H: I actually enjoy the daily missions – they call it daily contracts. There are also a lot of game modes so I enjoy that. My favourite is capture the point. Also, the fact that you can level up the guns and repair them without it being too expensive is really good.
Y: Yeah, it definitely suits all kinds of players. You can be invested in the game, play a lot and be rewarded by having all these gear options and vanity points in that your guns are a certain level and you are a certain level. There’s a lot of openness and variety in how you can approach the game. I don’t play Ironsight that frequently and unlike other games, you don’t feel like you’re missing out on too much if you’re only playing sometimes.
H: Ironsight kills my battery way more than other games though.
Y: Yes, my PC is janky at times but even at the lowest settings, the fan goes crazy and it’s super loud. That’s surprising because if you play an open-world game with medium settings you can hear the fan and it’s a nice fan, but this one is way louder.
H: My laptop is pretty bad to be fair but my laptop loses battery on charge while I’m playing, which doesn’t happen with other games. Overall, it’s a good free-to-play game and on its own, it’s a fun game that you can play casually, which is exactly what I want. There’s also a lot of variety to the game which keeps me engaged. The drawbacks are relative to other games in that it’s quite basic and drains your battery.
Y: Yeah pretty much the same for me, it’s got that right balance as an FPS. It’s free and you can hop in and out, it’s a nice casual shooting game. The drawbacks are that yes it’s casual but, being casual, the monetisation system is very complex and the graphics aren’t the most polished. The lack of polish is reflected not only in the graphics but probably in the engine and the back end of things, which is causing potentially inefficient use of resources and lag. But it’s fun!
